It came with about 4 stalks of fresh celery, and a rich, creamy blue cheese dressing which contained nice chunks of cheese. But it wasn't a sharp, biting heat but a warm, deep heat. My eyes watered, my nose ran, and beads of sweat emerged from my brow. They were too hot for my wife, but I loved it. The meat was so tender yet they managed a nice crisp to the skin. I've been eating hot wings for 30 + years and these ranked among the best. Dough was cooked just right with a nice, crunchy crust edge.īut the wings. I did like the chunkier helpings of toppings and there was just the right amount of flavourful sauce. Not my style of pizza as there is too much crust but my wife was pleased. Not as rich in flavour as I was anticipating since my wife claimed they were highly recommended for their soup. Broth was thicker than usual and it contained ample vegetables. Service was very good - quick, polite, and attentive. There was a 20 minute wait at 7 pm but we got seated. All servers here are pleasant and they love Buddy's as much as their customers do! More Good size, aesthetically pleasing bar and they also have a separate banquet room. Opened a few years ago, it's a large location with a garage door which opens the bar and converts it to an outdoor patio. While there are a number of Buddy's locations in the metro Detroit area, this is the best location. But this is my favorite Detroit pizza because the sauce is more of a sweet marinara and the pizza itself is fluffy, but not too tall (so you 're not terribly full after 2 slices). But the best thing on their menu is Detroit pizza.īuddy's offers a variety of pizzas - classic Detroit, thin crust, and gluten free crust. Their menu does include your standard appetizers (best thing is Buddy Bread!), salads, sandwiches, and entrees. Detroit pizza is the best kind of pizza! I enjoy Chicago deep dish and I love New York thin pizza, but there's something magical about Detroit Sicilian style.īuddy's prides themselves on being the original since the 40s (1943 if memory serves me?) and I can see why. It's reason to believe if you're from Detroit, you should argue. If you're from Chicago, you tend to argue Chicago pizza is the best kind of pizza. If you're from New York, you tend to argue New York pizza is the best kind of pizza. Service wasn't terrible, but we could have had a little better experience if the wait staff had acted more involved or they wanted to have the customer have good experience. Way to much expense for a "regular pizza" No how does the food look or taste when it first arrived or coming back later to see if we needed anything as my wife's ice tea was empty at half the meal.įood wasn't terrible, but don't say it is Detroit Style Pizza when it isn't, monitor the kitchen for how the pizzas come out. After serving our food we did not see him till we were finished. It really didn't bother me but it does bother me when a worker complains to a customer about the business he works at. Didn't help our experience when he first came to the table & complained about the way the table was set up. Maybe a bad day or long day but he just went through the motions. The location at 13 Mile & Van Dyke, which I just ate at a month ago, always serves perfect Det Style Pizza - thick, cheese out to the edge & high on the edge, crunchy, & blackened on the outside edges.Īlso, our server was not the best either. I know what Detroit Style Pizza is & what we had last night was way off. I've eaten at the original Buddy's in Detroit & the 13 Mile & Van Dyke location for almost 50 years. Might be okay pizza, but don't try to pass it off as Detroit Style Pizza with a high price for lower quality pizza. Someone in the kitchen or the Manager is. Pizza was flat, large areas of just crust 1&1/2 inches wide from the edge on two slices, outside edges not blackened. Pizza was not even close to "Detroit Style Pizza". ![]() Visited this location last night for dinner.
